Adopt-A-Waterway Program

It’s up to each of us to keep our waters clean…

That's the idea behind the Adopt-A-Waterway Program.   The Fountain Creek Watershed Flood Control and Greenway District encourages local organizations and individuals to formerly Adopt-A-Waterway for the purpose of protecting and improving water quality.

The Adopt-A-Waterway Program is a relatively low-risk program designed for local groups that are interested in trash and debris cleanup along the waterway.  Individuals up to the age of eighteen (18) can participate in stream cleanups and other activities if properly supervised by an adult. Close adult supervision is required for children under the age of 8 at all times. Participants in the program are advised to stay out of the waterways at all times.

Each adopting group:

  • Must include a minimum of 6 people and have an adult (21 years or older).
  • Adopts a waterway for a period of at least 2 years.
  • Agrees to collect trash along the waterway at least two times per year.
  • Must coordinate the group’s activities with the Adopt-A-Waterway Volunteer Coordinator.

The Fountain Creek Watershed Flood Control and Greenway District will recognize adopting groups by providing signage for the adopted waterway.  The Fountain Creek Watershed Flood Control and Greenway District will provide safety information, trash bags, and other support necessary to adopting groups.
